Ocean Conservancy, a non profit with offices in St. Petersburg FL, is getting some global internet attention. It seems that Coca-Cola is hooking them up for Earth Day.
First a few words about the Ocean Conservancy and then we’ll talk about the exciting Coca-Cola and Facebook project.
If the name “Ocean Conservancy” sounds familiar, it may be because they’ve had an office, in between downtown and mid-town on Central ave, sometimes they have those real nice brochures setting out, and have been there for many years.
They fund research and raise awareness for ocean health. Their words for it:
It’s time to recognize the source that sustains us day to day with the food we eat, the water we drink, and the air we breathe…to discover that all living things are connected to the ocean. It’s time to understand that going green starts with living blue. It’s time to start a sea change.
Now for the Coca-cola Facebook Project. It’s pretty exciting, Coca-Cola will donate $1 to the Ocean Conservancy for each Facebook user that signs up and plays the Facebook game. The game itself sounds like it’ll be pretty popular and help raise a lot of awareness. No word yet on whether Florida Red tide or other specific ocean health issues will be present.
This is another great example of merging internet technologies and even different disciplines in innovative ways can really pay off.
